Newton Brewing Company was started as a way to celebrate Gordon Newton’s life. The labels of its beer line focus on the beauty of Hawaii, as well as the nostalgia of wartime. They invoke the feeling of sitting down with friends or family and telling stories about the “good old days.” This is accomplished by showcasing Hawaii’s beauty with a native flower on each label. These flowers sit in the foreground of a classic Hawaiian backdrop, such as palm trees or the beach. The illustrative style is representative of old Navy propaganda posters. The logo “Newton” was also inspired by those posters. The horizontal lines within the letters echo the nautical stripe pattern as well. The banner at the bottom, which houses the names of the different beers, communicates a sense of pride. The knot underneath the logo is a sailors’ knot, which also represents the strong familial tie of the Newton family
